West Somerset College Wall of Fame Unveiled

Wall of Fame Final

After working with the Alumni Officer, Sally Scyner of the West Somerset College, we’re both happy to announce the unveiling of the ‘Wall of Fame’!

Due to the latest 2017 Social Mobility Commission report, a list of local authorities placed the coastal council of West Somerset to be the worst local authority in the UK. The report flagged up a lack of job opportunities, poor wages, problems in education, high house prices (which are inflated by those retirees) and the very remoteness of the area.

The concept behind the ‘Wall of Fame’ is to showcase the talent that has come out of the secondary school and sixth form of both the West Somerset College and the West Somerset Education system as a whole. The wall is hoping to encourage and empower those who are currently studying at the school to give them the confidence to know they are able to achieve anything they put their mind to and not be disillusioned by the recent report.

The wall showcases alumni who have gone through higher education, vocational courses or now work in a trade. The varied ‘Wall of Fame’ allows current students the reassurance that there are so many job opportunities out there that they can get their teeth into after finishing compulsory education!
